DIY Madness & the 1-Weekend Project

Okay. We all experience the phenomenon of Do-It-Yourself (DIY). I’m not just talking about home improvements, taxes and such, I’m talking about anything and everything. But know this, that when you endeavor to do anything yourself that may require advanced skill levels, please, please, please do your due diligence to make certain that what you are about to do will work and function properly when you are done.

As a professional creator of 3-dimensional objects for everyday use, I must say that there is never a moment when I allow my mind to wander into the abyss of bliss or wherever, especially when there are many numbers, fractions, decimals, millimeters, etc. that must be tended to on a minute by minute basis.

Once focused, I set up my plan; I stage the entire operation, again not allowing my mind to stray, but focusing on the current stage of the plan while preparing to transition into the next stage(s)…

You see, whenever we do anything, there is a natural flow that attends the activities and the same is true with any kind of home improvement project. Not being prepared is like interrupting that flow and something is bound to go wrong. Recutting sucks, period. Especially when it’s some exotic wood.

Those enticing words “Done in One Weekend” might be true for someone who has a grasp on the general skills necessary to perform, but even the pros know that is not always how things happen. Know your goal, plan how you will get there and get to work.

Last but not least, take your time. You don’t have to get it do in one weekend. An hour here, an hour there makes certain you can enjoy your finished product when it is finally completed properly.

Good luck!
